Formby is older than Liverpool, being founded by the Vikings and appearing in the Domesday Book. Mainly agricultural land until the railway came to the village in 1848, it is today a dormitory town for Liverpool but still has a pleasant village feel to its centre with several historic buildings.

Highlights of the walk include the Victorian Police Station, Polish War graves, the Village War Memorial, a former C17 Catholic Chapel, the 1785 former School House and the Formby Roll of Honour, listing those who volunteered to fight in WW1 before conscription was introduced.
